BAST has launched an online petition here, seeking to raise 5,000 signatures in opposition to 5G for Bermuda. Here is the text of the petition:
We are a group of citizens advocating for safe, reliable, and responsible technology in our community.
Our mission is to educate and inform our community and policy makers about the dangers of exposure to unsafe levels of wireless radiation.
WE CALL ON OUR GOVERNMENT AND REGULATORY AGENCIES TO MAKE A FIRM COMMITMENT TO OUR HEALTH AND OUR CHILDREN’S HEALTH AND DENY “SMALL CELL” AND 5G APPLICATIONS AND TO CREATE MORE PROTECTIVE POLICY FOR WIRELESS RADIATION IN OUR COMMUNITY.
The deployment of 5G will involve “small cell antennas” placed outside of homes and businesses and will result in continuous and involuntary radiation exposure for everyone. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable.
TAKE ACTION AND SIGN THIS PETITION TODAY TO REFUSE TO ALLOW OUR COMMUNITY TO BE GUINEA PIGS FOR THIS UNTESTED UNSAFE TECHNOLOGY DEPLOYMENT.
There is absolutely no reason for us to move forward with 5G and “Small Cells” , which will increase involuntary public exposure to wireless radiation exponentially by antennae densification, when there are safer technologies like fibre optics to business and home.
The microwaves that will be running between 5 and 80 gigahertz, have been known to cause cancer, mental health problems and sterility. They have serious effects on humans, animals, birds and bees. We have already seen rises in illnesses due to previous systems such as 4G but this next level will be many times worse. Since trees above the height of 3 meters are a field of disturbance to 5G, our tall and old trees are in danger of being cut for a better reception of 5G. WE need our old trees urgently for the purification of air and oxygenation.
The precautionary principle should be applied for public health. The Nuremberg code (1949) applies to all experiments on humans, thus including the roll-out of 5G with new, higher RF-EMF exposure. All such experiments: “should be based on previous knowledge (e.g., an expectation derived from animal experiments) that justifies the experiment.” The resolution of the Council of Europe no. 1815 (Europe Resolution 1815), to reduce exposure and placing of masts especially near nurseries, schools, playgrounds and homes should be followed.
